I’m trying to actually write on this blog now, so I’m going to start with something a bit longer than some of my previous posts. (long/complex words also make you sound smarter :>)

Social interactions between opposite genders may lead to thoughts of philander. These thoughts may also involve looking for a partner, in which one tries to seek those of above-average qualities to spend a large portion of their life with. Both males and females tend to look for several different qualities in their partner. And if they are looking for a partner that is suitable, they tend to look for those with qualities that are above the 50th percentile. If we were to calculate the percent chance of someone that has all the qualities AND is above the 50th percentile, this is how we would calculate.

Assume: Female looking for partner with qualities that are mutually exclusive events, and > 50th percentile

Body fitness level: 49%

Facial features: 49%

Intelligence: 49%

~~MONEY: 3%~~

Money: 49%

So the formula for expressing any male of that caliber is:
= a*b*…*c (number of variables depends on number of qualities wanted)
And we substitute the values in and solve the equation
= B*F*I*M
= 0.49*0.49*0.49*0.49
= 0.49^4
= 0.057648
We assume anything in the 49th percentile and above is a satisfactory match, so the calculations include a completely average person to an amazingly extraordinary person. So the chances of meeting anyone above-par is approximately 5.8%.

But there is also a possibility that the opposite side has the mutual thoughts, and is also looking for an above-average partner
=0.057648^2
=0.003323
Therefore, the chances of two people of opposite genders meeting with above par qualities is approximately 0.33%

Assuming the endpoints of a function, in which x is directly related to y, and where x represents how nerdy the poster looks by writing the post, and y is the chance for the poster to meet a female can be represented by the asymptote:
x -> infinity, y -> 0
Therefore, as x approaches infinity, y approaches zero.

Ten’s Complement

I wonder what would happen if instead of teaching subtraction to my kids, I taught them ten’s complement.
But then they’d still have to do subtraction to obtain the numbers in order to do ten’s complement.

Learning Perl

Learning Perl has been quite the experience of transition.
It’s as if I jumped into a cold pool, and I’m going AGGGHHHHHHHHHAAAA because it’s so cold.
But after a while, it’s not so bad.
Still doesn’t change the fact that I want to get out of the damn pool.
Stupid subroutines not taking my multiple arrays as parameters!

Algorithms in C

Just picked up this book, “Algorithms in C” by Robert Sedgewick. It’s proving to be quite a challenging read for me, with the crazy math that I haven’t learned yet. Plus, I haven’t really use C for anything useful, so the application part is also overwhelming me. On the plus side, I get to see a lot of pretty diagrams and graphs for comparing different sorting functions.

I wanted to make a facebook application, but I couldn’t think of any ideas. But now I have an idea, but I doubt I’ll be able to roll anything out until summatives/exams are over. Then I get 2 months of coding and things to do!

I think I’m going to call it yourStats. I wonder how this will turn out.

On another note, ICS summative is going to kill me. I have most of the math done, I just need to refine the collision detection, and reduce lag. Java sucks.

Haven’t blogged for a while

I’ll continue blogging, since I totally forgot about this thing after the HL fiasco. I guess I’ll update on what I’ve done in these few months since the last post. John gave me some work to do with web development. The first was a feed to fetch stock values from the Yahoo stock API. My literalness of his saying make it flexible enough to handle new stuff lead me to create a database that was dynamically created with every change. John taught me that was baaaad. Bad as in, stupid idiotic thing to do, since the database is the core structure in your website, and it shouldn’t be altered, unless it was really called for.
Now I’m working on converting .png pictures into a HTML website. Pixel matching is NOT fun, especially since you don’t know exactly how many pixels of whitespace is in the banner, and you have to calculate it, adding on the margin whitespace, to get the actual position of the banner. Not cool.

Also, Wing Chun videos on youtube got me interested in stuff. Sparring with Jonathan and Gilbert Friday after-school was an interesting experience. The hierarchy of sparring experience went Jon->Me->Gil, and bashing Gilbert around was pretty fun. On a facebook quiz, Gilbert took a fighting quiz, and he got the result of “Chuck Norris”. Needless to say, me and Jonathan proceeded to whack down “Chuck” during sparring.

Uninstalled all the crap, and just installed wamp, so much easier. No hassle, either. I got the MySQL database filled with tables from Fate/Perception before I stopped, and am currently playing around with PHP. Not using it for so long made me rusty. I kept thinking of java stuff, and I forgot to put the $ sign to denote a variable in my for loop, which caused me some annoying error messages. Something about improper amount of brackets. It should have given me an undefined constant error, damn it.
